As many of you already know, I am a junior in college at NDSU. I also recently began a new position at Brady Martz and Associates. When you had the privilege of reading my blog about myself, you may also have read about my desire to hang out with friends and spend time with family. However, let me tell you about the mechanisms I created to ensure that I am able to be successful in each of the areas.
One of the biggest things I realized after attending college and starting my new job, is that I need to be precise and flexible with my schedule. Oftentimes, jobs have set schedules, just as mine does, as well as certain times that college classes are offered. When creating the schedule between the two, I had to choose my priorities and what I needed to be focusing on the most right now in my life. In this case, college is the step I need to be completing in order to further my future in an occupation I desire for.
On the other hand, I needed to use my college class schedule to correlate with my work at Brady Martz. To do this, it was easiest to send my boss my class schedule, as well as conversate with important people in my life. This would ensure that I wouldn't be overbearing myself with work, in addition to the college courses I am taking. When combining my work and college schedules, I also had to designate times for the online courses, as they do not have exact times during each day that I need to be working on them.
In addition to college and work life, I worked on tying in my social life. This included date nights with my fiance, time for myself, volunteering hours, attending religious events, as well as making time for my friends and family. I realized that the best way to attribute to each of these is by setting days or times for each. For example, I designate Tuesday evenings for date nights and Wednesday evenings for bible study. By doing this, I am able to then tie in personal meetings with friends, as well as times for me to relax and self-meditate.
Overall, it is important to sit back and piece together your social, college, and work life. One can easily overpower the other, so it is important to lay out your priorities and be flexible with your schedules.
