NDSU offers a wide variety of courses for business students. It is important to research what each class is about, to ensure that the courses we are taking are peaking our interests. Included in this post, you will be able to read about each of the courses I am taking and why I chose to take them in relation to my major.
International BusinessInternational Business is a course on the differences between domestic operations, including the benefits of operating across the globe. This involves business transactions between people that are from different countries, explaining how international business is an important part of the global economy. The course goes into depth on the political, cultural, and economic problems managers are facing through international operations. This course is essential for me to take this semester, as my major in business administration requires me to take this course. I believe it is essential I am knowledgeable about business internationally and not only in the U.S.
Business Law I- Contracts, Property, and Torts
Business Law I is a course on the study of the foundations of law in business and other commercial transactions. This includes covering the law of contracts, personal property, real estate, insurance, wills and estates, and torts. The course goes into depth on teaching the sources of American law, elements of a valid contract, the differences between real and personal property, and basic tort principles. It is essential that I take this course this semester not only because it is required for my major, but also because it allows me to become knowledgeable about the laws relating to business and how I can handle them in the future.
Business Professional Writing
Business Professional Writing is a course on professional communication within a workplace. This includes focusing on written, oral, visual, and collaborative communication that will help me learn to respond to various writing tasks in my future workplace. By taking this course, I am becoming a better communicator, being able to integrate knowledge in a meaningful manner, and will develop professionalism for my future occupation in finance or business administration.
Investment Analysis and Management
Investment Analysis and Management evaluates various securities for investment, investment analysis, concepts of efficient markets, and market risks. Through this course, I am also learning of key points in portfolio management and international investment aspects. As a student with a major in Finance, this is a required course for me to be taking. It is essential for my future in finance, as I am gaining an understanding of financial markets, analyzing equity securities, learning portfolio theory and capital market theory, and practicing asset allocation.
Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management
Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management focuses on entrepreneurial ideas, processes, and individuals in relation to entrepreneurship. Through this course, I am able to apply management, marketing, and finance tools to the small business side of things. I am obtaining a certificate in entrepreneurship, so this course was one that piqued my interest, as I am contemplating one day owning my very own business. This course was also a requirement for me to take with my business administration major.
As you have read above, each of these courses is a huge asset to my future occupation. Through business writing and small business management, I am able to learn some clear insights and gain knowledge that I am confident I will be able to use in my future career.
